and ostracism and that the phenomena of homosexuality and intersex issues were only natural. We now need to move beyond discussing their existence to solving their problems, one needs to move beyond a closed mindset and realize that they are also human-beings.
The BJP’s stand on Section 377 is different from hers, Vanathi Srinivasan says that nobody from the party stopped her from going. "I don't believe my party functions with a closed mindset," says Vanathi Srinivasan.
Many leaders in the BJP have been known to support IPC 377. Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the BJP President, was quoted as having said in December 2013, “We will state (at an all-party meeting if it is called) that we support Section 377 because we believe that homosexuality is an unnatural act and cannot be supported.” He said that his party unambiguously supported the re-criminalization of gay sex. Spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi had equated homosexuality with Western society.
Vanathi Srinivasan is a BJP leader who believes in inclusion, there are other leaders in the party with the same mindset. But they mostly remain an exception in a party that has either opposed homosexuality or chosen to remain ambiguous.
The book, titled “Maraikappata Pakkangal (Hidden Pages)”, is the first book on Gendervariants in Tamil penned by Gopi Shankar of Srishti Madurai. Shankar is the youngest panelist to share chair in University Grants Commission and Indian Council for Social Sciences Research sponsored national seminars where he conducted more than 80 Seminars on gender and sexuality. He also organized Asia's first Genderqueer Pride Parade in 2012. This book is a scientific, sociological, anthropological, psycho analytical, religious, philosophical and political take on gender. There is scattered information on these genders variants, but no authoritative book so far. Certain interviews of controversial people are also present in the book.  This book also interprets references to alternative genders in Hindu mythology, Quran and Bible.
Srishti Madurai was initiated by college-going students, and it is one of the inclusive groups of its kind which has involved academicians, Independent scholars, Human rights activist, Environmentalists, Animal rights activists and genderqueer activists on a common platform.
